Download IASTools

IASTools has two distinct programs, client and server. The client software must be installed on all IAS Servers. The Server program must only be installed on one server, the computer that will become the State Server. These could be on the same computer if desired.

IASTools offers a 30 day trial period. During this period up to 255 IAS servers can be used. After the 30 days is over IASTools will stop functioning. In order to get it to functioning again licenses have to be purchased.

IASTools-IASClient.exe (804 KB) - Required
IASTools-HelpDeskClient.exe (211KB) - Optional
IASTools-StateExplorer.exe (543KB) - Recommended
IASTools-SSWE (93KB) - Optional
Version: 2.0pre1 Beta
Date: 30 Nov 2002

Beta Notes:
Users who have purchased licenses for V1.x will be permitted a free upgrade to V2.x. The beta files offer new features and improvements. Here are some:
1. Support for up to 512 NAS server.
2. Local and Global group support.
3. CalledStationID and CallingStationID now present.
4. State Explorer allows for the viewing of stats on the StateServer and also info on each port in use (does not require ODBC logging).
5. Improved network communication.
6. Fewer parameters to set in SSTune.
7. Support for single table session storage with ODBC.
8. Improved SQL performance. Better burst performance has been achieved. Slow SQL servers will make less of an impact on the StateServers performance.
9. Access list to improve security.
10. Session time-out abilities.
11. HelpDeskClient allows help desk users to better support the client base.
12. Users can now select a DataSource name, username and password.
13. SSTune now also includes a State Test as well as a Stress Test. These tools will help access server performance and correct operation.
14. IASTools-SSWE.zip contrains a ActiveX component and web pages to display the state of the State Server and also to allow for clearing of stale sessions. See Help.html for installation instructions.

Uninstall all versions of the server and the client. Before uninstalling:
1. Disable IASTools in SSTune then stop/restart IAS.
2. Stop the StateServer Service.

Now install both IASTools-Server and IASTools-IASClient. The IASTools-HelpDeskClient and IASTools-StateExplorer are optional, installation of the State Explorer is, however, highly recommended.

Post upgrade steps:
1. Before starting the StateServer Service, launch IASTools and then click 'OK'.
2. If you have already setup your tables in your database, then add two new fields to your 'Logon' table, one called 'CalledStationID' and the other 'CallingStationID'. These fields should be text with a length of 255. Ensure that these fields allow 'zero length' text to be inserted. Use the ODBC test in IASTools to ensure your db is setup correctly. Optionally the single Session table can be setup to replace these tables. See the help file for details on how to set this table up.

IASHelpDesk.exe is a client that will allow for the querying of the StateServer to check whether or not the user is permitted another session. Sessions can also be cleared with this tool. As far as the StateServer is concerned this client is just another client and must be licensed accordingly. You can however install it on the IAS Server, which will not require an additional license.

Please read the help file before using the State Test. This test creates and deletes users on your system. Failure to understand how this test works could result in some users accounts being damaged/deleted. The test creates users with the prefix SSUser, and a number after it. If you have real users on your system with usernames match these, take care.

Uninstall Note:
Before uninstalling the software, make sure that IASTools has been disabled, and that the IAS Service has been restarted after IASTools has been disabled. If this is not done the uninstall will not be able to delete the plug-in dll, or the dll will be deleted but IAS will still expect it to be present and therefore not start.
